Margaret is taking it easy on the sofa this evening, watching the Phoenix Suns basketball game against the Los Angeles Lakers. She really is a loyal fan of the team (especially Raja Bell) and we enjoy watching the game together. So I'd better make this a short comment so I can rejoin her in front of the TV.
She went for several tests today and yesterday, in preparation for her scheduled hospitalization at Banner Good Samaritan in about ten days or so. She'll receive very strong chemo and about a week later, her brother Raymond will join her at the hospital where some of his bone marrow will be transplanted into Margaret.
Raymond is a life saver, the kind of brother who steps up to protect and keep his sister safe. All of us are very grateful to him. His wife Sally has been an incredible help to Margaret's mom while Margaret has been ill, and also to Margaret herself. For example, Sally drove Margaret to the tests today, while I was at work.
Margaret's friends Meri Lee, Kate, Mary, Claudia, my sister Karen, and many others have been so handy with help. Our friends Jon & Debra dropped by the other day and had a visit that boosted Margaret's spirits, also. Dan and Ann in Flagstaff sent a CD of an interview of an artist who had faced similar adversity and transformed it into creative energy. Very inspiring!
But the one thing that greatly moved Margaret recently was when she received a packet of letters from 5th Grade students at Heatherbrae Elementary School. Their fondness for their beloved art teacher was apparent and they communicated their concern and support in very direct ways that only young people can do.
Margaret may be facing a difficult medical situation. But she has been blessed in that the love and friendship of so many people has become tangible and touchingly obvious in ways that give her strength.
That is the absolute best news that Raymond is a perfect bone marrow match!! Thank you Raymond, for being so giving to Margaret. Margaret now has the best chance of beating the leukemia down.
