Looking to Go Home In a Few Days

With her blood counts climbing back up closer to normal levels, and her respiratory challenges overcome, Margaret has her sights set on leaving the 12th floor of Banner Good Samaritan Hospital just as soon as the doctors will allow. They're talking about less than a week... maybe sooner!

Still some hurdles to get over: Margaret has to eat solid food consistently without nausea, there is a minor infection in her foot (of all places) that has to clear up, and the several medicines administered by IV must all be switched over to oral doses. So far one medication has been switched successfully. Steady progress, but not quite there yet.

My sister Karen came over to the house today and helped with major cleaning. With it likely that Margaret can be released to go home in a few days, we are frantically preparing the house for her.

Once released from the hospital, at home she will still be very susceptible to infections for many weeks and even months. She'll be required to wear a mask when she goes anywhere outside the home.

So we are required to have the air ducts cleaned throughout, carpets shampooed, kitchen & bathrooms sanitized, and everything dusted and vacuumed. I threw in some window washing just for the heck of it.

Neighbors Brenda and Becky checked with me today to find out the latest on Margaret's condition. Both were happy to hear that the bone marrow transplant has been successful and that she is improving steadily.
